CPI to Offer 200-Hour EMT Course

Central Pennsylvania Institute of Science and Technology will offer a 200-hour EMT course that can provide individuals with the appropriate certifications to work in emergency services fields. It's through the Centre County Public Safety Training Center Emergency Medical Technician program.

Instructor Cheniene Leiter said the idea was sparked in July of 2017 and has been approved by the state Department of Health that evaluated curriculum, equipment and classroom environment. It will provide basic to intricate training through about a six-month course scheduled to meet twice a week in the evening and one Saturday a month.

The course provides classroom and hands-on training in trauma, anatomy and, “everything else that will put them in the back of an ambulance during a call,” Leiter said. Students may even obtain their Emergency Medical Technician certificate.

Program start date is pending.
