Yeagley Celebrated for 20 Years of Service to CPI, Scholarship Named in his Honor

Hank Yeagley is often known as Mr. CPI. After all, he served on Central Pennsylvania Institute of Science and Technology’s Joint Operating Committee for 20 years, and is credited with helping make the career technical school what it is today.

A ceremony was held Nov. 16 to celebrate Yeagley. It included local public school district representatives and legislators.

“I thought you had to die in order to get all these nice things said about you,” Yeagley said with a laugh.

Yeagley joined CPI’s JOC in December 1997. He is retiring in December, but will serve on a CPI advisory committee.

“Under Hank’s leadership, enrollment at CPI’s secondary career and technical education programs has grown significantly,” Director of Secondary Education MaryAnn Volders said. “Scores of students in the commonwealth have earned a career in technical education thanks to Hank’s vision to grow CPI into the institution it is today. There has been no greater champion for CPI than Hank Yeagley for the past two decades.”

During the ceremony, his family also announced that a scholarship has been created in Yeagley’s honor that will benefit adult students wishing to continue their education through CPI’s Associate in Specialized Technology Degree programs.

A website has been established to help raise funds: https://www.gofundme.com/scholarship-honoring-hank-yeagley. By the end of November, more than $4,500 has been raised.

“It’s been really inspiring to see how the school has changed and prospered under (his) leadership,” Yeagley’s daughter Leanne Weyman said. “One of the things I’m most proud to see was how proud he is of the students here.”
