CPI Staff to Help Make Kidsí Holiday Brighter

The Early Childhood Education program hosts a campaign every year that allows faculty and staff at Central Pennsylvania Institute of Science and Technology to make sure children served by the program get a nice holiday.

Attached to the Early Childhood classroom at CPI is a Head Start classroom that offers two classes for about 16 students. Head Start is an early childhood development program for low-income families, Early Childhood Education Instructor Erin Gearhart said.

“In past years, many of our faculty and staff have made the holidays brighter for many little ones,” she said. “Each year staff at CPI take children to buy for, for Christmas. Some of the staff work together (to buy for families), others buy for just one preschooler.”

The teachers give them the age, gender, and needs and a few wants for each child or family, and then the items are purchased, wrapped and delivered for Christmas.

Gearhart calls these people “Christmas angels.”
